On Tuesday, January 10, we had the chance to welcome professor and political philosopher Ramin Jahanbegloo at LFT. He is a renowned expert for his research on intercultural relations and the concept of nonviolence.

After his PH.D in Philosophy at the Sorbonne and a post-doc at Harvard, Professor Jahanbegloo taught at UofT and York University. He is currently executive director and vice-dean of the Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Nonviolence & Peace Studies at O.P Jindal Global University.

In April 2006, Dr. Jahanbegloo was arrested at the Tehran airport on charges of preparing a velvet revolution in Iran. He was held in jail for four months and then released on bail. And it was by sharing this episode of his life that Dr. Jahanbegloo began his talk to the Terminale students.

"Philosophy is about thinking about the Other, it is an introduction to the dimension of plurality. Violence is the negation of plurality and therefore of the Other and therefore of philosophy."
