Develop knowledge and skills

From Grades 1 to 5, the objective is to acquire fundamental skills in all subjects. The academic curriculum allows the students to improve their skills and develop their knowledge.

The children learn to organize their ideas, prepare for events that mark the year and  take pride in their work. Logical thought is developed thanks to subjects such as geometry and problem solving. The concepts of time, space and the environment are also taught. Physical education, music and art complement this important period in the child’s development.

Individualized Learning

The mastery of the French language and the mathematical concepts are the main objectives of the elementary school to enable students to access the fundamental tools of knowledge. Students can benefit from educational activities in French and English which reinforce learning, specialized assistance (speech therapy, occupational therapy) and academic assistance by teachers.

Along with following the regular curriculum, the teachers monitor each student, adapt to their needs and encourage him or her to make greater progress by offering content which supports and stimulates learning. Small class sizes and innovative learning methods enhance this individualized program. We encourage each child to be original, creative and independent in their learning.

In order to respond to the needs of students who encounter difficulties in their learning or academic progress, the LFT offers various possibilities: individualized help in French, adapted transition classes for learning English and academic support.

Curriculum

The French learning and learning model is based on knowledge, skills and culture from 5 areas:

  • Language to think and communicate
  • The methods and tools to learn
  • Becoming an independent person and a citizen
  • Natural science and technology
  • Representations of the world and human activity

Within these areas the mastery of the French language (appropriation of oral and writing skills) is the main priority. The language program is enriched with 5 hours 30 min in English per week starting in Grade 1 (CP).

Independence and personal initiative, conditions of academic success are gradually implemented in all areas and enable students to gain in confidence and efficiency. The school takes into account the multitude and diversity of each student’s skills. Reasoning and intellectual reflection are accompanied by the development of a sense of observation, a taste for experimentation, sensitivity, motor skills and creative imagination.
