Our head of school: Barbara Martin
Leadership rooted in innovation and dialogue
Since joining the Lycée Français de Toronto in August 2021, Barbara Martin has led with a unique approach centered on caring, listening, dialogue, and collective intelligence. Recognized for her innovative methods and success in the world of education, she became one of France’s youngest heads of school in 2008 and previously managed a large lycée in France.
- Expertise and Recognition: Holding a Master’s in Biology and Geology, Ms. Martin’s extensive 20-year career includes roles as a teacher, deputy head, and head of office at the French Ministry of Education. Her commitment to service has been recognized with the Chevalier de l’ordre national du Mérite (France’s highest honor) in November 2021.
- A Published Vision: Her leadership philosophy, which emphasizes a vision of excellence for everyone—a school that is fairer, more inclusive, and one that gives every child the keys to reach their full potential—was detailed in her successful book, « La méthode Barbara » (published by Fayard in October 2022).
- Commitment to Humanism: Ms. Martin is also committed to foundations and associations, including the Edgar Morin Foundation and SEVE, focusing on developing critical thinking, responsibility, and a renewed humanism in children and teenagers.

The Lycée Français de Toronto is a not-for-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors.
Board members are elected by Members of the organization (parents and staff) at the Annual General Meeting, ensuring that governance remains closely connected to the families and community the school serves.
Board of Directors
As a not-for-profit institution, the Lycée Français de Toronto is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors responsible for strategic direction, financial oversight, and institutional sustainability.
Working in alignment with the Agence pour l’Enseignement Français à l’Étranger, the Board ensures that the school’s growth remains mission-driven, financially sound, and academically ambitious.

Conseil d’Établissement
The Conseil d’Établissement ensures the coherence of the school’s educational project across Primary and Secondary.
Bringing together representatives of leadership, teachers, parents, and students, it contributes to key decisions related to:

- academic calendar and organisation
- major initiatives shaping school life
It is a forum for dialogue and shared responsibility within the educational community.
Conseil d’École
The Conseil d’École focuses specifically on Kindergarten and Primary.
It gathers teachers, parent representatives, and school leadership to support pedagogical organisation and the smooth functioning of daily school life.
Through collaboration and constructive dialogue, it reinforces the essential partnership between families and educators during the foundational years.
