Our history

More than 30 years of bilingual, bicultural education in Toronto.

Founded in 1995

by a group of visionary parents, the Lycée Français de Toronto began as a small school with a bold mission:

to bring the excellence of French education to an international city.

Over the decades,

the Lycée Français de Toronto has grown into a thriving institution recognised for:

its strong academic results

its multicultural community

its leadership in bilingual education

its commitment to student wellbeing and inclusion

Today,

our alumni attend leading universities across Canada, France, Europe, the U.S., and beyond.

Our story is one of growth, innovation, and unwavering dedication to excellence.

Our role in Toronto’s community

An international school deeply rooted in Toronto.

The Lycée Français de Toronto contributes

to the cultural, educational, and linguistic vitality of one of the world’s most diverse cities.

We do so by:

  • promoting bilingualism and intercultural understanding,
  • offering a rigorous French academic pathway within an English-speaking environment,
  • welcoming families from all backgrounds and nationalities,
  • preparing students to become thoughtful, engaged, and globally minded citizens.

Building meaningful community partnerships

We believe education extends beyond the school walls. That is why we collaborate with local cultural, educational, and community organizations that enrich students’ learning experiences and strengthen the French-speaking community in Toronto.

Our partnerships include cultural institutions, libraries, museums, community organizations, and early childhood education providers.

Among them, Ma Première École, a private French-language preschool located in Toronto’s Beaches neighbourhood. Welcoming children from 18 months to 6 years of age, it provides a warm and fully French-speaking environment where children develop confidence, curiosity, and a love of the French language through play, exploration, and everyday experiences. Through its immersive approach, Ma Première École supports French-speaking, bilingual, and English-speaking families who wish to give their children the gift of French from the earliest years.

At the crossroads of French excellence and Toronto’s multicultural vibrancy

The Lycée Français de Toronto stands as a bridge between cultures, languages, and perspectives, helping students develop the intellectual, linguistic, and human skills needed to thrive in an interconnected world.
