Middle School is a transformative stage.
Students step into adolescence, take on new responsibilities, and begin to understand who they are becoming. At the Lycée Français de Toronto, the Elevate years are designed to guide this transition with purpose, structure, and care.

Here, students develop the academic strength, personal confidence, and bilingual fluency they will carry into high school, and far beyond.

A strong academic foundation with room to grow

During Grades 6 to 9, students follow the rigorous French national curriculum within a bilingual, multicultural environment.
They deepen their knowledge in:

mathematics, sciences, and technology,
French and English language and literature,
humanities, geography, history, and civic education,
arts, music, and physical education,
digital literacy and project-based learning.

What sets our approach apart is not only what students learn, but how they learn it.

Our teaching practices draw on cognitive science, visible thinking, explicit instruction, and interdisciplinary projects. Students build:

strong reasoning and analytical skills,

In Middle School, academic disciplines gain in depth and intellectual rigor.
In mathematics, students develop structured reasoning, work on logic, proof, and complex problem-solving.
In science, they learn to observe, experiment, formulate hypotheses, and interpret results with method and precision.
In history and geography, students build strong chronological and spatial reference points, analyse documents, compare sources, and develop a critical understanding of the world.

The structuring of thinking at the heart of Middle School

The Middle School years play a decisive role in the development of students’ intellectual thinking.

At the Lycée Français de Toronto, students progressively learn to reason, analyse, organise their ideas, and argue with clarity and rigor across all subjects.

They move from guided learning toward more abstract understanding, developing strong study habits, the ability to formulate hypotheses, justify their reasoning, and mobilise knowledge across disciplines.

This intellectual structuring, characteristic of the French Middle School curriculum, prepares students for the demands of High School and the French Baccalauréat, while fostering an academic maturity that is rare at this age.
